I show the invisible and I can't stop learning

I write here when I'm trying to understand something that won't leave me alone. Usually it's about machines — how we build them, what we ask them to do, what they ask us in return. But really it's always about people.

I spent years in tech thinking I was building the future. Then I had to step back and ask what I was actually doing. That question led me to history, to philosophy, to old stories that feel urgent again. I'm still asking it.

This blog is where that thinking lives. It's for people who are asking hard questions about technology and humanity, whether they work in tech or just live in the world. No assumptions of expertise required — just genuine curiosity.

1991

Wrote my first line of code

In BASIC on my family's Amstrad CPC 6128 Plus computer. Probably something that asked my name, and printed "Hello, Guillaume". My favourite game was Rick Dangerous, a cartoonish 2D platformer whose main character, inspired by Indiana Jones, is said to be the father of Lara Croft from Tomb Raider, a game made by the same developers a few years later... I never managed to go further than the start of level 2 (on a total of 4 levels... yeah, games were hard back then...)

1993

Got my mind blown by a movie

At age 9, I'd exhausted the dinosaur books in the local libraries. When my aunt asked what film to take me to, I didn't hesitate. Jurassic Park was the first movie I saw in a theater, and I knew right then that computers could bring ideas to life. That passion took years to find its path. I studied industrial engineering, drawn to mechanics and systems. But 3D imagery never left me. I kept studying how ILM created those effects, bringing 3D into every project I could, until the passion eventually became the career.

1998

Overclocked my first CPU

An Intel Pentium overclocked from 120Mhz → 150Mhz: +25% and the CPU didn't even have a cooling fan ! I was learning from magazines, in order to play Half-Life at a nice 800x600 resolution on a 15"CRT instead of the 640x480 default. I later spent my piggy bank money on a Diamond Monster 3D video card (3Dfx), which was a big deal back then (4MB of video RAM !) Pixels disappeared and it looked so realistic !

1999

Made my first website

A simple HTML page made with Microsoft FrontPage (a WYSIWYG editor that was part of the Office suite at the time) to share black and white photos of my friends and me riding mountain bikes. I later used Macromedia Dreamweaver 3 to have more control over the code and make a website for my high-school class. Started doing interactive animations with Macromedia Flash 3. That was pure creativity and freedom.

2000

Made my first 3D animation

I started using a bootleg copy of 3D Studio MAX R3, provided by my high-school electronics teacher. It was incredibly hard to learn, but I bought a dictionary-thick manual to understand the basics, and soon I was hooked on 3D image creation. Terragen was another amazing piece of software at the time, you could create realistic landscapes an render them with raytracing. It was crazy to think a teenager in his room could use the same tools as Hollywood artists!

2004

Coded a 3D viewer from scratch

During my industrial engineering studies, my mind kept drifting to 3D graphics. I brought my own angle to every school project, always finding a way to link it back to 3D imagery. For a study on the Wankel rotary engine, I let my partner handle the mechanical calculations while I animated the engine in 3DS Max, adding particle effects for gas flow and explosions, camera slowly orbiting to an Enya track. It was majestic! I also coded a wireframe 3D viewer in Visual Basic that could import and rotate (very slowly) any 3D mesh, with a custom UI inspired by a vintage CRT monitor.

2009

Got my first job in tech

After finding a path leading to 3D image technology in my curriculum, I specialized in Simulation and Virtual Reality. I got hired as a 3D photogrammetry engineer for heritage preservation. I couldn't believe I got paid to have fun making 3D digitizations of ancient buildings and artifacts across Europe.

Late 2012

Co-founded a startup

How about bootstrapping a company with two friends and just have fun building things together? We really pushed what we could do to the max and beyond, and I'm proud of the team we made. I learned so much during those 8 amazing years! But I ran on work alone for a long time. My dreamer's temperament collided with the hard reality of business, and it took the strange stillness of lockdown to see what I'd quietly been neglecting: myself, and my family.

2020

Got thinking while locked down

Reconnecting with the real world — family, gardening, sports, woodworking, and my own head. These days I try to keep three things in balance: the work that's necessary, the ideas that feed my mind, and my family. I don't always manage it, but I've stopped pretending it doesn't matter.

2022–2026

Started sharing my expertise

I started working with other companies, hoping to share what I'd learned earlier in my career. That's when I discovered I actually enjoy solving organizational and people problems — they're even harder than technical ones. I also saw firsthand what toxic work environments do, both to the work being produced and to people's health. It's still shaping how I think about the next chapter of my career.
